I have been blessed with the opportunity to play many games, ranging from the NES to the PS5. This has allowed me to gain an understanding of the various tropes, motifs, and tricks these games employ. This included genre cliches as well. While the main genre I enjoy are JRPGs, I play just about anything that is not an FPS, including platformers, Strategy RPGs, sports games, and everything in between.
Growing up I was given a heavy diet of music from different genres by my father, who himself was a composer/producer, mainly for TV and radio commercials. This means that from a tender age I have been exposed to the deep melodies of Schubert, The rich sounds of Weather Report, the energetic aesthetic of the Chieftains, the distortions of Metallica, and basically anything else you can think of. This has allowed me to compose music in a great number of styles. My main genres tend to be classical, Celtic and heavy metal (though in the context of a band), though if the situation called for it, I am confident I could recreate many other genres as well.
M composition journey began when I was about 7 years old and after just a couple months of piano lessons I composed my own piece for solo piano. Just a year later, when I was about 8 I lifted most Soundtrack to the Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time by ear so that I could get a better understanding of the music. This began a long journey of falling in love with the art of video game composition. Whether it is the sweeping melodies of the Final Fantasy series or the jazzy rhythms of Persona, I have spent more hours than I can count listening to, and analyzing the music behind the magic. While I ended up pursuing a joint degree in Political Studies and Philosophy before going to Osgoode Hall Law School, one of Canada's premier institutions, I maintained a love of music. So much so that in 2023 I decided to also pursue a degree in music at York University simultaneously with my law degree. with special permission from both sides, I have maintained an extremely heavy course load, stellar grades (including straight As in composition) and still found time to do what I love and hope to do for a living: compose music for video games.
Inspired by Flamesgrace in Octopath Traveller ( https://octopathtraveler.fandom.com/wiki/Flamesgrace?file=Flamesgrace_Concept_Art.jpg ), This pieces uses a heavy amount of reverb and a subdued orchestration to create the feeling of hibernation in the snowy, nestled town. The version displayed here adds Celtic instruments to the arrangement to create a more lively feeling while retaining the cold atmosphere. Quest Incomplete can be heard here: https://youtu.be/QLvb1PHj6O4. Used EastWest Hollywood Orchestra, Platinum Pianos Samples and Eduardo Tarilonte's Celtic Era Samples. Arranged in Logic Pro X and Mixed in ProTools.
Inspired by the Myrlwood in Final Fantasy XV ( https://finalfantasy.fandom.com/wiki/Myrlwood?file=Myrlwood-FFXV.png ), this track is meant to inspire exploration, with a hint of hesitation.
The Woodwinds act as a representation of nature's beauty whereas the other instruments represent the mystery of the dungeon. The night theme can be heard here: https://youtu.be/KVJ946gp-WE. Used EastWest Hollywood Orchestra, Platinum Pianos Samples and Eduardo Tarilonte's Celtic Era Samples. Arranged in Logic Pro X and Mixed in ProTools.
Designed to play over a title screen, this piece has a great deal of musical topography to signify the ups and downs of the adventure which is about to take place. Used EastWest Hollywood Orchestra and Platinum Pianos Samples. Originally arranged in ProTools and then rearranged in Logic Pro X and Mixed in ProTools.
Inspired by the River Belle Path area of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles (intro cutscene seen here: https://youtu.be/B17RXXgz1r8?si=yOqoA4drc7D1H9ca ), this Celtic inspired piece is intended to play as the player character explores the banks of a moderately fast river with pebbles and bridges dotting the path. Unlike the original theme, I went for a much more energetic feel, especially as this is the first area the player explores and so I wanted to propel them forward with youthful exuberance, much like the player character has at this moment. Created using Eduardo Tarilonte's Celtic Era Samples. Arranged in Logic Pro X and Mixed In ProTools.
